Stephen Spill

From the age of 7 when he discovered an old bellows camera in an attic, Stephen has been hooked on photography. From those early times and through his school years Stephen learnt the art not just of taking images but of processing and printing them himself, giving a total understanding of the technology of the photographic process which sometimes lets him push the envelope of photography because he knows what can be achieved.

Stephen’s love of technology led him in a different career direction, into computing software, where he now consults to high tech companies on partnerships and alliances as a means of stimulating corporate growth. But the growth of digital imaging, initially with scanners and now with Canon Digital SLRs, has allowed Stephen to build a digital darkroom where he can once more be involved in the whole process from gathering ideas for images through producing a fine art print.

Having a camera helps you see things differently. It can show you more that you normally see with the naked eye or it can focus in on a very specific detail making every new scene an exciting journey of discovery. Stephen loves to write, photograph and travel and is contemplating a post high tech career in travel photojournalism. Whilst many think that all the great photographs have already been taken, Stephen believes that we live in a changing world and that there is an opportunity for the next great photograph just around the corner, be it of nature, of people or even technology.

Sylvia Spill-Johnston

Sylvia has always been interested in photography as a way of recording events and places for posterity. But only after her point and zoom camera broke while on a trip to France and a friend lent her a spare Canon SLR, was it that she discovered her creative side and was able to at last understand the magic of the still image.

As a Director of Human Resources, Sylvia spends her days helping others to meet corporate goals by providing a friendly, safe, secure and stimulating workplace. But after the many long hours of her working day, Sylvia turns to photography for relaxation and self expression.

A member of NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) and a keen traveler, Sylvia’s focus is on stimulating sustainable eco-tourism by showing both the beauty of the natural world and the devastation that works against it. Traveling to popular places and places yet undiscovered, Sylvia points her camera to show what is good and great in our living world.
